Time : 2:00 p.m, 30th April 2018
Picking up address: 92 Lý Tự Trọng, District 1, HCM.C
My two guests recognized me at the first glance. A little mistake about information from guests made me surprised a little bit, but we easily get along with each others.
When I heard that was the first time Stephen and his wife ever booked a taxi, I was not sure whether traveling by taxi made my guests comfortable or not. Fortunately, they understood that 7 km was an impossible number to take a 3-hour walking tour.
During the tour
The most striking feature of this tour was that I added Cha Tam’s Church – a new destination – into our Chinatown tour. Because of my trial Chinatown tour, which I had taken by myself before, Cha Tam’s Church visit went quite smoothly. This new destination lengthens the Chinatown’s time up to 3 hours including the transportation. Besides the two Mazuism and Taoism temples, another religion like Christian did make a interesting atmosphere for the Chinatown tour.
This tour seemed to be more like a chance to share some information. Because Stephen and his wife have visited most famous destinations in Vietnam and other Asia countries, they had a pretty clear knowledge of our culture. Moreover, this was not the first China town they visited.
Maybe some comparison about the difference between Saigon’s Chinatown and the others’ would be more reasonable for this tour. In details, Stephen taught me that while god and goddess in Saigon’s Chinatown were of Taoism, Chinatown in Thailand worshiped Buddha and the other one in Australia followed a religion which he forgot the name.
My Chinatown tour ended after visiting the Xã Tây small market which was on the opposite side of Quan Công temple. Although my guests wanted to visit Bình Tây market, it was under repair. Comparing with the dirty and hot Kim Biên market, maybe a “real” market like Xã Tây would be much better. My tour ended in the thankful saying from both sides – guest and guide. Personally, I knew more knowledge and skill after a free tour .
