Date : 26th Feb 2018 at 10AM
Guests : Alan Pham and his friends from the US
Guides : Trọng Danh and mah idol Mai Trúc Quỳnh
Picking up point : Saigon New World Hotel
We arrived at the hotel at 9h35 to wait for the guests. Honestly, that was the first time I had picked up the guests at the New World Hotel. You have to use the telephone at the reception desk and ask the receptionists to call for guests to go downstairs.
So it is, my first tour after a long Lunar New Year break.
During the tour
The guests were all from the US but surprisingly that Alan is Vietnamese and he had never been to Ben Thanh Market before.
They all seemed like they were very into Vietnamese coffee and how it’s made. I told them that the 2 popular Vietnamese coffee grinds is Robusta and Arabica. It came to a fact that Vietnamese coffee has double the caffeine than coffee in their country.
Every day is a new thing, while we were walking, they told me that mainly in the US, people speak American English with slangs and idioms, like in the NYC, it’d be hard for you to blend in because you might not understand what kind of English they are talking. So that British English is an approved and proper language.
I explained the Gothic Architecture to them and gave them some really fine examples while we were in the centre of the city. They were impressed when I told them that the Central Post Office was built by Gustav Effiel ( you know who he is right?)
And then the last location was the War Remnants Museum. And well, I left it all to Quỳnh idol, and she was doing a very good job I can tell you that. She has a very wide and deep knowledge of history and other side-story. Aware that the guests were from the US so the info you told them must be 100% exact.
And as our city tour ended, before saying goodbye, they said that they didn’t know where to have dinner that evening so recommended a few places for them to enjoy.
