SAIGON : the non-sleep city

Whenever it comes to the most hectic city all over the world, the answer that
immediately springs to your mind could be New York City. The nightlife in the city
centre always enjoys a lot of patronage.

Downtown in District 1, rooftop bars, smooth jazz bands are the choice forms of
nightlife entertainment in Saigon. But move a few kilometers west into District 3
and the backpacker street of Pham Ngu Lao, with its boisterous street bars,
cheap eats and good time vibe, is certainly the place to be when night falls.

Here are some suggestions of us in case you want to hang out at night in this non-sleep city:

1. Saigon Saigon Rooftop Bar (19 Lam Son Square, District 1)

Saigon Saigon Rooftop Bar

Saigon Saigon Rooftop Bar on the ninth floor of the Caravelle Saigon will be
forever immortalised for its role in the Vietnam War as the location of the daily
war correspondents briefing, and it was the professions’ watering hole of choice
all through the decade long conflict. In those days – before the construction of
the much taller Sheraton Hotel nearby – the view from the rooftop bar looked
uninterruptedly across the Saigon River so the journalists had a clean view of the
fighting as they relaxed with a few beers and shared war stories.

1. Beer Hoi on Pham Ngu Lao street

Pham Ngu Lao Street

Pham Ngu Lao Street in Ho Chi Minh City is on the western edge of District 1
and is renowned as the place where most backpacking travellers stay during
their holiday. A 25-minute taxi ride from Tan Son Nhat International Airport, it
comprises numerous lanes and back alleys though the main thoroughfares
include Pham Ngu Lao, De Tham, Bui Vien, and Do Quang Dao streets.

3. Sax n’ Art Jazz Club

It is a bar to enjoy jazz by some of Vietnam’s
most talented musicians. Dark and smoky, this live jazz bar is located on
Le Loi Street, not far from Ben Thanh Market. The music here is
mostly contemporary jazz with subtle Vietnamese influences usually played by
the house band plus special guests. While it only serves drinks, the club is a
popular venue amongst travellers looking to unwind after a day of sightseeing in
Ho Chi Minh City.
