Hi there, we are Saigon Free Day Tours (free walking tour Saigon). Today, we are here to introduce you some interesting information about Sapa and the terraced rice fields in water season.
The climate in Sapa usually cool and fresh due to its location in the high region. It is described as there are four seasons clearly shown in the morning, noon, afternoon, evening, corresponding to the weather of four seasons: spring, summer, autumn and winter in one day. The terrain is hilly and mountainous, interspersed with valleys, ponds, lakes, waterfalls, and streams … giving Sapa beautiful landscapes to attract tourists from the first sight when they arrived. Therefore, Sapa is one of the most tourist attractions in Vietnam.
Sapa is also famous for its terraced rice fields. They were voted as one of seven most beautiful and impressive ones of Asia and the world by readers of the US’s magazine Travel and Leisure
Indigenous people make use of hills and mountains to cultivate rice. They opened up and divided hills and mountains into many steps, and built embankments to their farms. When being seen from afar, the terraced rice fields resemble alike a picture of nature with heart-catching virtue grasping tourists to stay for wonder for a while. This picture, however, has changeable color seasonally, exhibiting its most alluring charm when the new crop begins, green rice grows and the field is lush with ripening rice.
Summer is also the water season in here. As usual, in April and May, The terraced fields are being taken water to prepare for a new crop, on these days if you have the opportunity to come here to look from above, you will admire the beautiful scenery of water flowing into the fields. The surface of terraced fields shines like a mirror reflecting the contrast of the reddish brown of soil, the deep blue of the sky high above and the green of surrounding forests. Embankments surrounding these terraces look like threads softly lined by the painter.
In June and July, the terraced rice fields with fully-grown paddy rice and forest trees covered the green out to the whole area, from the foot to top of mountains, before disappearing in the mist. The green of paddy rice grown on the terraced field makes tourists think of it as a hand-made creation of uniqueness which cannot be found anywhere else.
In September and October when autumn ends, tourists can explore prosperity all over the area as rice in all terraced fields is ripe, giving the golden color. During the time, the terraced rice fields look like the golden silk scarves flying over in the wind above green mountain slopes, making the mountainous landscape astonishingly beautiful.
